8. Adjectives used as nouns

Adjectives can be used as nouns to refer to groups of people: the rich, the young, the unemployed.

Examples:

• The rich should help the poor.
• The sick were treated as well as possible.

There is no singular form.

There is also the special case of nationality words: the Greeks, the Algerians, the Japanese.
